Have you ever what is like to take photographs using minimalism? I will update this page from time to time.
What is minimalism?
Minimalism is a style or technique used to describe simplicity and extreme spareness.
Through my knowledge in minimalism, I applied this technique in my photo shots. Here are several photographs that I took.
These photographs are taken using Xiaomi Mi4i.
This photograph is a close-up view on the food heater holder. The details of the pattern shows a rough surface.
This photograph was taken when I had slices of persimmon as a dessert. The focus of the camera creates the detailed lines on the fruit.
I admire this type of stone brick wall being painted in the living room. The painted wall shows a clear image of the actual stones.
The black and white effect of the bag and the background shows a repetitive pattern. It looks like the bag is camouflage to the background.
The reflective of the clothes water spray shows a blur background. There is a slight illusion effect of the tube of the spray in the water.
The photo shows when a cooked egg skin is peeled off. This was taken when I first succeeded in boiling an egg.
This is a photo of a Korean persimmon on a white table. It shows a the darkest tone on the persimmon leaf to the fruit and the lightest to the table.
This was taken when I had a hard time carrying this tube every day to my fundamental drawing classes. Although it was a burden for you, inside the tube contains the effort I put in my drawings.
This reflects a memory when I first bought my canvas shoes. It was one of the happiest moments in my life.
Here is a photo of a cup of ice lemon tea and table cloth. It shows contrast between the monochrome tones: black, grey and white.
After taking with my smartphone, our lecturer told us to try taking photos using our DSRL camera. I used Nikon D3400 camera in this case.
This is a photo of my camera lens. I want to focus on the details on the camera lens rather than the background.
In this photo, I want to show the details in the texture of the wooden floor. The texture looks rough and shows different tones.

I took this photo when I looked down at the hotel floor mat. It looked very simple and unique with just circles.
Here is a photo of a fabric flower for decoration. I created a difference between the focus on the flower and the blurry background.
This is a photo of the Sterculia Tree. Although I could not capture the fruit, the leaves and branches in the sky gives a simple image.
This photo shows a bunch of fabric roses for Chinese decoration at The Gardens, Midvalley. I took a close up on the floor with the roses.
This photo is taken at Kuala Lumpur City Centre. The two buildings contrast with the plain sky in the background.
Here is a close-up view of a bush I found at Taman Botanical Perdana. I wanted to show the clear details of the leaves.
I took these Chinese lanterns when I went to Kajang for a street photography trip.
After this exercise, I learned about minimalism and how is it applied in photography. I found that it is not easy to control the monochrome effect when taking the photo. Now, I am comfortable in controlling the exposure and improve gradually. I will practice more on this exercise from time to time.
