Have you made layering art at least once in your life? If you have not, here is how you can start of! I have done several layering art in old used books. But now I need to do in a frame.
In this assignment, I was asked to create and design a layering art based on a actual painting, local tales/stories or even with my own theme. Before starting, I sketched 10 rough drawings using famous paintings and local stories.
The top drawing is based on the Story of Nian. The bottom one is based on the Chinese tale, Moon Princess.
The top drawing is based on a Korean folk tale, the tiger and the dried persimmon. The bottom one is about the legend of the jade rabbit.
The top one is a Russian story, Animal Farm and the bottom drawing is from a famous painting called ‘The Scream’ by Edvard Munch.
The top one is a painting called The Son Of Man by Rene Magritte. The bottom one is a painting, ‘The Persistence of Memory’ by Salvador Dali.
The top drawing is a painting called ‘Portrait de Picasso’ by Dora Maar. The bottom one is hyper-realistic painting by Roberto Bernardi.
The layering art should be in a square shape. I need to focus on a certain part that I want show about. I chose to do about a Russian story, Animal Farm by George Orwell. As you can see in the sketch, the pig is the main character in the story. The barn shows the setting of the story. The background is red and white which signifies the colour of the Soviet Union.
Here is my drawing in different views. I add colour to show the different set of colour paper I will use.
I even draw a 3/4 view with measurements for accuracy in my layering later on. This is a improved version of it. The previous one did not show the spacing between each layer.]
Before starting the layering art, I drew separate layers to show a clearer understanding of how my layering art will be like.
After drawing, I start to do my layering art. Here are my development of the process making of my layering art.
In these developments, I have added “Animal Farm” to show what the layering art is all about. The colour I chose synchronizes with the other colours in the other layers.
Final outcome
After doing this assignment, I learned that that colour and perspective is important in Design and Art. Although it was challenging at first when I measured and cut out the layers, I managed to solve the problems and complete the task on time.
