Have you ever visited the wall mural art paintings in Penang before?
My parents, sister and I went to take photos of the wall murals around the streets in Balik Pulau on 28th May 2018. These wall murals were painted by a Siberian-born Russian artist, Julia Volchkova. These paintings were painted to display the local culture of Penang.
Here are the wall murals I have taken using my camera, NIKON D3400.
This first wall mural piece is called “Fisherman”. This is a portrait of Yeoh Choon Seng. He is a local fisherman from Teluk Kumbar and it was painted when he was mending fishing nets.
This second wall mural piece is called “The Silat Master”. It is a portrait of Johari Omar in a silat stance. Silat is a traditional martial arts practised in Mala Archipelago and Indonesia.
This third wall mural piece is called “Hakka Dancing Girl”. This is a painting of Pang Yi Chuen, a local Hakka girl. This painting is inspired from her traditional dance which caught the artist’s attention at the Hakka Association in George Town.
And finally this last wall mural piece is called “The Rubber Tapper” . This painting shows a women doing rubber tapping. Rubber Tapping is process that collects latex from rubber trees through incision made at tree bark. Rubber trees plantations are common in Malaysia. Rubber is the main exports of the country.
